Amanda Sparfeld (USA)


Award-winning flutist, Amanda Sparfeld (Blaikie), is being widely recognized for her musical ability. She has served as principal flutist of the Miami City Ballet, and has performed with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Orlando Philharmonic, Boca Raton Symphonia, and the Florida Sunshine Pops. Amanda has worked with artists including Julius Baker, James Galway, Jeanne Baxtresser, Trudy Kane, Brad Garner, Leone Buyse, Jim Walker, Carol Wincenc, Michel Debost, Bonita Boyd, Amy Porter, and many others.

Premiered works include Roberto Sierra's Symphony No. 1, Christopher Rouse's Wolf Rounds, and David Maslanka's Trombone Concerto. Amanda performed for Phillip Glass with the Frost Opera Theater, and has performed alongside David Robertson, Christine Brewer, Helmut Rilling, Nicholas McGegan, David Amato, Mark Sparks, and Craig Morris.

After winning the state and regional competitions, Amanda was a National Finalist in the MTNA Young Artist Woodwind Division, and has won numerous others, including Artist Presentation Society, Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition, Sigma Alpha Iota, the Sheldon Young Artist Series, the University of Miami Concerto Competition, and the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition.

Currently, Amanda is pursuing a Professional Studies Degree in Orchestral Performance at the Manhattan School of Music where she studies with Robert Langevin. She received a M.M. in Flute Performance from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, where she was appointed the Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Flute Studio, and holds a B.A. in Music with Highest Honors from Principia College. Principal teachers include Marie Garritson Jureit, Christine Nield-Capote, and Jenny Robinson.

Amanda Sparfeld actively teaches students of all ages and performs in venues around the country.
